Elra Desmond is a young and talented writer. She is the second writer to be published and we would like to introduce her to you through this interview:
O’wango: Where did the O’story “The Whitehall Affair” come from?
Elra Desmond: I got inspired to write a story about an MP falling in love with an ordinary girl after watching a documentary about famous love stories. Going to work in central London, I use to go through Whitehall every day and, with it being the political hub and with Big Ben as a backdrop, I thought it was an incredibly dramatic but also romantic setting for a love story.
O’wango: Was it difficult to write and work at the same time?
Elra Desmond: Incredibly! It was so tiring trying to find time to fit my writing in around my 9-5 job, seeing my friends, studying and my charity work. But somehow I got there, and I hope people will like the end product.
O’wango: What are you doing now?
Elra Desmond: I’m still doing my 9-5 job and am trying to finish off lots of other writing projects too. In my spare time, I courier blood during the night for a charity. I love going out with my friends – either for dinner, to the cinema or just for drinks. I have a major weakness for champagne and cocktails! I’m also studying flower arranging as well as taking part in loads of writing competitions. Phew!
O’wango: A word for our readers?
Elra Desmond: Always believe in love. It’s the only thing worth talking about!
